Vintage Fashion Brand Spotlight
Brief History of Suzy Perette
First up Suzy Perette is NOT a real person, it’s a brand (as stated in the title).
Ushered into popularity by Dior in 1947, the fit and flared silhouette with long sweeping skirts, fitted waists, and rounded shoulders quickly became the new feminine standard.
Thanks to a very special arrangement between Sidney Blauner, the owner of the Suzy Perette label, and the house of Christian Dior, the coveted Parisienne designs that were once daydreams, became available to American women under name Suzy Perette.
The styles Perette is known for such as the fitted waist and flared skirt, the slim sheath or “wiggle” silhouette, and classic shirt and day dresses are now American classics. Since the brand stretched decades from the late 1940’s to the early 1970’s, the collection has also encompassed mid century shifts and a little bohemian flare.
A popular designer for the Suzy Perette Company was Victor Costa who worked for the company from 1965 to 1973.
The Suzy Perette legacy has been carried on by vintage enthusiasts worldwide and the iconic Perette designs remain in high demand to this day (Source).

Oh Liz, my favorite designer! I have 2 Suzy Perette dresses. One is a wiggle dress with roses and the other is an orange plaid dress perfect for fall, I hope to wear this season before it’s too small for me… Thanks for the great info and pics!
EEEK! Lucky you! I would love to find one in my size one day. Fingers crossed! Enjoy your lovely dresses!

I love these dresses….too bad that I am a short (5′) and considered chubby (125 lbs) woman with actual breasts. I don’t think there is a vintage dress out there I would be able to squeeze into and still breath!
I still have my red floral Suzy Perette from the 50’s. At the time I had a 23 inch waist. It was with a full, fully lined skirt with bows at the shoulders. I still love to look at it! I made a black taffeta evening coat to go with it.
Oh wow! It sounds lovely and a black coat to with it. Wonderful! What a treasure.
Thank you for commenting and sharing your dress.
