Wanda Jackson-The Queen of Rockabilly

The Queen of Rockabilly - Wanda Jackson

I’m so excited! for tonight right here in Toronto, I get to see the Queen of Rockabilly…”Wanda Jackson” in the flesh. She will be performing at a favorite watering hole for Rockabilly lovers in Toronto called the “Cadillac Lounge” and the show is going to be amazing I just know it!

What is awesome about the “Caddy” as we call it here is that it is small so it’s going to be a pretty intimate show so I hope I can score some good pictures of her OR maybe even meet her..OMG could you imagine?? If I do I will do a follow up post with the pictures.

In the mean time I thought I would share a few pictures of the beautiful Wanda Jackson and a couple of videos of my favorite songs as well. Enjoy!

Wanda Jackson-The Queen of Rockabilly

Wanda LaVonne Jackson (born October 20, 1937) is an American singer and songwriter. Since the 1950s, she has recorded and released music in the genres of rock, country and gospel. She was among the first women to have a career in rock and roll, recording a series of 1950s singles that helped give her the nickname “The Queen of Rockabilly” (Source).

Did you know that Wanda briefly dated Elvis??? Lucky Lucky Lucky girl!

During the 1950s, Jackson’s stage outfits were often designed by her mother. Unlike traditional clothing worn by female country music singers of the time, she wore fringe dresses, high heels and long earrings; and has claimed she was the first female to put “glamor into country music (Source: Wikipedia).

1940’s & 1950’s Bowling Fun! Vintage Advertising & Photos

A few years ago I attended a cool Rockabilly event in Toronto called “Bop & Bowl” where we “bopped” to good Rockabilly music and “bowled” at the bowling alley…clearly lol! Anyways this event got me thinking about what I should of worn at the Bowling alley that day. So while looking online for inspiration, I stumbled upon some really fun photos of “Bowling alley fun” AND “Bowling alley dress” that I thought I would share with you.

Note: See a full post I did on “Vintage Bowling Advertising

OMG! Look at how divine these 1940s women look?? The last two ladies on the right are outstanding with their hair and makeup and look at their perfect nails! I would love to know what their nails looked like AFTER they finished though. ha!

Fun with the family at the Bowling Alley circa 1950s. The little girl with the cute dress and hair totally makes this picture.

I love her look, if I could wear shorts well I would totally take this 1950s look but for now it just might have to be the top.
