Brrrr It’s Cold Outside-1940s & 1950s Vintage Winter Images

It’s cold right now and that is because it’s Winter and it’s January and I live in Canada….The Winter Wonderland of the North (I love Canada, don’t get me wrong but temperatures like Hawaii all year around would have been nice).

Well at least until I win the lottery there is not much I can do expect to embrace it. So for today’s post I wanted to share some images I have been saving up that are all about Winter. So grab a warm blanket, some hot chocolate (or maybe a hot toddy) and settle in.

Growing up I was a downhill skier, that is what my family did for holidays and I loved it. Not sure when I started to dislike the cold. Anyways…I would totally get back into skiing if I could look like this lovely lady in 1940s ski fashion.

Winter is incomplete without a few certain sports, like skiing and of course skating.

21 Feb 1947: A group of female office workers put on their skates in the snow to enjoy a lunch-time skate on the frozen lake in St. James’s Park, London.

And lastly, lets take a moment to enjoy the wonderful thing called “Winter Driving”. Idaho 1952.

I LOVE this story for this next picture-Gene and Mickey at the Carillon Tower on Belle Isle in Detroit during WWII.

From David Staskowski:

Even though my parents met in grade school and knew each others families in the Polish neighborhoods of Detroit, their romance wasn’t without a few obstacles.

There were Pop’s years of enlistment (WWII). There was another man who courted my innocent mom while my dad was in the Army. Then there was my mom’s wedding where my dad wasn’t the groom but was one of the groomsmen, her 1st marriage didn’t last for more than a moment. My mom left the man and won back my dad, who never had stopped loving her. Then there was a little problem with the Catholic church and my devout paternal grandmother.

But that’s nothing that love, and waiting 20 years for a Vatican annulment, can’t conquer.
