Everyone Loves a Scottie Dog, Especially the Vintage Community!

Every since I found my wedding shoes from Irregular Choice with a cute adorable Scottie Dog on them (see below), I have been obsessed with collecting vintage items with this dog on it. I also realize that I’m not the only one who loves the Scottie asΒ many ladies (and gents) in the vintage community I know enjoy collecting them as well.

For today’s post I would like to talk a bit about why the Scottie dog is popular, showcase some fun vintage photos and vintage items that showoff that love.

Mini History Lesson of the Scottie Dog1930s Popularity

During the 1930s it seemed like everyone from Movie Stars to Presidents wanted to own this dog and they did!

Owners included (but not limited to):

President Franklin Delanor Roosevelt was a famous Scottie enthusiast, and was known for taking his Scottie dog “Fala” with him almost everywhere he went.

Even the famous “Memphis Belle” had a Scottie Dog as a Mascot-Stuka

Having such an illustrious owners did much for the Scotties PR and the dog’s popularity was capitalised on by contemporary designers and advertisers of the period.

After a slight dip in popularity, the late 1950s saw the Scottie Dog become inΒ vogue again!Β andΒ could beΒ seen once again on many different items from jewelry to shot glasses.

My 1940 / 1950’s Swing Dancing Vintage Wedding – The Overview

April 28th, 2012 I married the man of my dreams in a romantic and fun 1940s/50s swing dancing themed wedding. It was an amazing day filled with lots of amazing memories with friends and family. So Happy One Year Anniversary to Us!

We did the “see me moment” at the hotel before our wedding photos and it turned out so well with family and friends being there. Doesn’t my husband look so good?? ahhhh…

My 1950s style wedding dress was purchased in NYC and custom fitted for me. The designer was called “Fancy Bridal NY”. They were amazing and so wonderful to work with.

The Wedding and Reception was held at the BEAUTIFUL St. Lawrence Hall in downtown Toronto.

After the Wedding we had a cocktail reception where you could type well wishes on a vintage typewriter and then look for your table from the Pinups board.

My giant wedding cupcake with Shrek and Fiona (my husband nickname was Shrek).

The seat assignments on the tables were vintage sewing pattern illustrations from the 1940s and 1950s that I cut out myself for 120 people and then glued them onto place cards. DIY Wedding indeed!

The Party was alot of fun! We had great DJ’d music all night and a photo booth that was busy all night long πŸ™‚ My mother law is the one shaking her shaker in the wheel chair.

After it was all done, we came back to our hotel room (much later in the night. We all ended up at a Jazz club at 1am for some swing dancing ) to see this. LOL! Those crazy friends and family πŸ™‚
